The Besakih is a practical rectangular tray made of water hyacinth and available in three sizes. Thanks to its sturdy structure with a metal frame and minimalist design, it's the perfect helper when you want to delight your loved ones by providing them with a few snacks or drinks.
Its compact size also makes it ideal for elegantly storing preserving jars or spices. When not in use as a tray, the Besakih also looks great as a table or shelf decoration even when empty.

Main Material: Water Hyacinth
Our trays are made of plant fibers. They therefore smell and feel wonderfully of nature.
The water hyacinth is a tropical aquatic plant that grows in rivers and lakes. It is originally native to South America but was also introduced to Southeast Asia. There, it is considered a weed because it multiplies incredibly quickly and can cover entire bodies of water with a carpet of leaves. The resulting lack of light and oxygen causes all underwater life to die. Therefore, the plants must be removed regularly. To prepare the plants for further processing, the leaves are cut off and the thick stems are dried in the sun for three to seven days. The result is a sustainable raw material that is abundantly available for many wickerworks here at Soeji!

This tray is handmade in Java, Indonesia.
When selecting our local producers, we value fair wages and good working conditions. In the factories where we purchase our goods, we employ only mature and experienced artisans. No harmful chemicals are used in the production process. Because all work steps are carried out by hand, the production process generates virtually no greenhouse gas emissions. We ensure this through regular on-site visits and ongoing personal contact with the companies.
